What is domain authority?

Domain authority is a 0-100 score of how strong and well connected a website is, used for link building and SEO research. Moz and Ahrefs publish their own versions (Domain Authority, Domain Rating). This index uses an open-data score computed from the Common Crawl web graph, so every number can be reproduced.

Where does the data come from?

The Common Crawl domain-level web graph (release cc-main-2026-jul-aug-sep), the Majestic Million list (CC BY 3.0) and Chrome UX Report popularity buckets. It covers 120 million domains; this site shows the top 20,000 by authority.

Is this the same as Moz DA or Ahrefs DR?

No. It is an independent metric. It is consistent across all domains, so it is useful for comparing and filtering sites, but it will not match the commercial tools.

How can I check my own domains?

Domain authority of the top 20,000 websites

Authority score (0-100), referring domains and web graph rank of the 20,000 highest-authority domains, from open data: the Common Crawl web graph, the Majestic Million and Chrome traffic buckets. The strongest domain is facebook.com (100/100).

How the authority score is calculated

The score is the average of two parts, each from 0 to 100:

Rank part: 100 × (1 − log10(rank) / log10(N))^0.6, where rank is the domain's harmonic centrality position in the Common Crawl web graph (how close it is to every other domain through links) and N is the number of ranked domains (133,241,980).
Link part: 100 × log10(1 + referring domains) / 7, so 10 million referring domains = 100.

It is consistent across all 120 million domains in the data, so it is good for ranking and filtering lists. It is not Moz Domain Authority or Ahrefs Domain Rating. Referring domains count other domains that link to this one, not individual backlinks; no list of linking pages is included.
